Being in Business as a Woman Like Me

So I’m not speaking for all of womanhood here. I’m speaking from my own experience as a woman trying to run a creative business. Running a business based on creativity is always going to be a bit more personal. Creativity involves a lot of an individual’s feelings and emotions. Combining that into a business is bound to be filled with a lot of ups and downs.

I would say in general I have a lot emotions going on in my world in a day. There’s the whole “you’re never as happy as you saddest child”. I’m inherently a nervous and anxious person so that doesn’t help one bit. I’m an observer that questions a lot but, I also really believe that people have the best intentions. Most of all, I’m loyal.

Here’s the thing that I’m learning. People don’t seem to feel the feels the way I do and, if they do, they’re hiding it much better than me. I’m finding that people really don’t have the best intentions and are inherently selfish. No matter how hard I try to do the right thing and to help others, it often feels its not reciprocated in kind.

I don’t mean to sound incredibly negative even though I know that I am. I’m just reminding myself to toughen up a bit. Its not personal. Its business. Thats hard for me. Everything is personal to me.
